ACT I · SCENE 2

// the program
As an international Shaolin Kung Fu competitor, I trained extensively in forms and sparring, refining precision, power, and control to perform on a global stage. Competing against practitioners from around the world, I learned to stay composed under pressure, adapt to different styles, and push my physical and mental limits while representing my school in high-level tournaments.
“I didn’t care about the belts; I simply cared about learning.”
// the monologue
hile walking across a complex, I came across students punching and kicking. However, when I peered into the door, I saw students doing amazing feats. Headflips. Ariels. You name it; they did it. I was mesmerized and shocked. I ended up signing up for classes through that “simple” demonstration. As I progressed through the belts, I started learning the things I had seen previously. However, I gained much more than skills and cool kicks. I gained an appreciation for the art. The rhythm of training and the sharp focus behind every movement reeled me in. It allowed me to ground myself and bring a burning passion into my life. I didn’t care about the belts; I simply cared about learning.
